The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland (CFNI) has been in existence since 1979 and over the past 30 years has worked with communities within Northern Ireland by using grant-making and fund development to drive social change (CFNI, 2012). Their work has promoted community development whilst supporting a context for peace and aiming to reduce poverty amongst the most disadvantaged communities. In recent years they have been engaged in facilitating communities to become increasingly aware of human rights protection and have worked to strengthen advocacy capacity amongst local groups.
